Increased prevalence of gastric pathologies in patients with total hip and total knee prostheses: a retrospective endoscopic study

Aims: The objective of this retrospective study was to evaluate the prevalence Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) positivity, gastric atrophy, and intestinal metaplasia in patients with dyspeptic complaints who had undergone total hip knee replacement surgeries, compared a control group without prosthesis.
 Methods: consisted 51 prosthesis, while comprised 75 similar but prosthesis. Endoscopic biopsies were obtained from all participants, presence H. pylori, evaluated.
 Results: significantly higher underwent Conclusion: results suggest that undergo surgeries may be at risk for developing pathologies, such as infection, metaplasia. Therefore, it is recommended physicians care these monitor them closely conditions consider endoscopic surveillance part their management plan.
